BRONSTON JONES: Back in Venice
For One Night Only, the resident host of Venice Underground Comedy will be back at the beach, and he’s bringing his funny friends.
For a decade, Bronston spent virtually every Wednesday night on that stage. It’s his favorite place on earth. He can’t wait to get back! If laughing with VenUground was part of your Venice Experience, then come down to the del Monte. If you’ve heard lore of the comedy of yore, then get a taste of what once was.
Lineup announced a few days before... But if you know, you definitely know. Yes, you know. And a surprise or two too. Who knows what goes under the boardwalk.
Established in 1915 by Italian immigrant, Cesar Menotti, Townhouse is the oldest bar in Venice and one of the oldest bars in the Los Angeles area. Townhouse's live entertainment basement, The Del Monte, was a true speakeasy during Prohibition (1920-1933) and a night-life nucleus, serving many nefarious and infamous characters of the day, masked cleverly by Menotti's grocery store above.
Underneath the rows of produce was a trap door and dumbwaiter that could bring down two guests at a time. Alcohol was brought in by boats from Canada and then smuggled via underground tunnels. Once Prohibition ended in 1933, a staircase was added.
